Classrooms and lessons – what are you learning?
We often find ourselves reliving the same sort of situations over and over again. Whatever it may be: friends that treat us unkind, partners that cheat, unjust bills that keep piling up, expectations shattered… We feel as if though we are cursed to keep having these experiences occur to us.
Let’s rewind for a minute. Think back to grade school. You probably took for granted going from first grade to second grade, from second grade to third grade and so on. But what would’ve happened if you wouldn’t have learned the lessons you needed to learn in first grade? If you hadn’t passed the requirements? You would have been held back. You would have been stuck in that classroom going over the same lessons until you learned what you needed to learn.
What if life was like that? What if we magnetize the same experiences and situations until we properly graduate from them? Then they stop occurring because we no longer need them for our growth. And we start attracting new ones based on our new state.
It may seem counterintuitive that we could have something to learn from a situation that seems unfair and out of our control, but I have come to know this as reality and truth. The classrooms you keep finding yourself in, the lessons you feel keep getting thrown in your face will not go away until you have learned what you need from them.
Look at every situation from the perspective of what it can teach you and how it will further your growth. Nothing ever goes away until it teaches us what we need to know. – Pema Chodro
